Everyday Coaching

Level 1

Become able to adopt a coaching role with friends, family, and colleagues.

The simplest form of coaching — microcoaching — is easy to master. You just prompt a person to talk openly about what’s at the back of their mind. As they talk, they will make connections and have insights.

This can open the door to a whole new form of social interaction. Instead of responding to what someone says with thoughts of your own, you can help the other person express what’s at the back of their mind.

It’s a great thing to help someone else have useful insights. It feels great. It builds empathy. It strengthens social bonds.

How It Works

As a Level 1 coach, you would …

Ask an open question

Begin your coaching by asking a question that’ll get someone to think about an aspect of how they’re living their life.

Listen attentively

Ear Listening

As the coachee talks, they will get their beliefs, and their hopes and worries, out into the open.

Watch the insights flow

Once what’s at the back of a coachee’s mind is out in the open, fresh insights usually begin to flow.
