Coaching Practice

Get ready to provide impactful coaching

The Programme

The Coaching Practice programme is for people who’ve taken our Coaching for Impact and want to develop their abilities in order to provide consistently impactful coaching.

By the end of the programme, you should be able to deliver well-structured coaching sessions that last up to 30 minutes.

You can complete Unit 1 on your own, but for the rest of the programme you will need to team up with two other people. This will enable you to gain practical experience.

You can find people to join you through the Learning Teams thread on the Coaching for Impact forum, or by performing a search for people who are ‘looking for learning partners’ on our members page.

You can work with your learning team partners in person, or via video-chat.

Course structure

There are four units, one for each of coaching’s foundation tools and one for your practice coaching sessions.

In Three Arenas, you’ll experiment with the comfortable environment tool by giving three pieces of microcoaching, two of them in poor environments and one in a good environment. You can do this before your learning team first meets. You’ll then be able to discuss your experiences during your first session together.

In Zooming In, you’ll experiment with the open questions tool by playing Zooming In, where you’ll ask a coachee a series of progressively less open questions.

In Bad Audience, you’ll experiment with the attentive listening tool by playing Bad Audience, where you’ll experiment with withholding your attention from the coachee.

In Practice Pieces, you’ll put everything you’ve been learning together by playing Practice Pieces, where you and your learning team partners will give each other complete piece of coaching.

Assessment

There is an assessment module at the end of the course.

To gain your Level Two Coach qualification, you will need to upload evidence of three successful pieces of coaching, along with descriptions of what you did to make the coaching effective.
